WAP's up with Softwaremaker.NET

We, at Softwaremaker.Net, are always constantly exploring and playing with newer and different technologies. We have recently fiddled around with Wireless Application Protocols (WAP), just for the fun of it...AND we liked it.

We have developed a prototyped WAP Application for our own use, setting up an internal WAP Gateway and using it within our own intranet. We would like to showcase this prototype on our Internet Web Server but UNFORTUNATELY, our remote Internet web servers are not set-up to dish out Wireless Mark-Up Language (WML) content (yet...). However, we have worked around these constraints by using MS Active Server Pages (ASP) technology to dish out WML Content from our web-site so it can be viewed with a WAP Simulator provided by www.gelon.net or www.wapsilon.com. Therefore, the wireless content is dynamically generated by server-side processed ASP and the front-end user interface will still be the industry standard WML.

We have also provided some very useful links below for developers who are interested in developing some WAP content for their websites.

www.w3schools.com is a very good site that provides excellent WAP tutorials and resources. Below are some links to the WAP sections of that site which developers might find useful.

If you would like to find out how our WML pages will look like inside a mobile cell phone's micro-browser, enter the full URL address of your WML page (with the appropriate extension *.wml, *.asp, *.cgi, *.cfm) into the text box below and click the (WAP IT !) button. If you are testing your WML pages within your own internal web server on a Local Area Network, please remember to set up a WAP Gateway on your web server. This link or this word document (IISWAP.doc) will highlight the steps needed set up a WAP Gateway on Microsoft Internet Information Service (IIS 5).
